I am a medievalist and Old Norse scholar interested in the relations between Viking-Age Scandinavia and the Slavic worlds, especially the Southern Baltic coast, and their later textual depiction in the literatures of the high-medieval North. Furthermore, my research is focusing on medieval long-distance trade, particularly in furs and slaves, between the Baltic Sea and the Islamic countries. My current interest is directed to the environmental history of the high-medieval North (c. 1000-1300) based on textual and archaeological sources, as well as natural-scientific data.
